چکیده

conclusions a new approach to treat lumbar facet joint pain with prf is simple to perform and without serious complications. in view of the good long-lasting results obtained with the two reported cases, randomized control trials are necessary to validate this new approach. case presentation a 71-year-old patient presented because of persisting pain in the left gluteal region radiating to the lateral thigh and calf when standing. anti-inflammatory drugs produced only short-lasting insufficient relief. a 52-year-old employee was admitted in june 2012 because of axial lower lumbar pain with intermittent diffuse radiation to the right lower extremity that worsened during walking and lying down despite receiving analgesics and physiotherapy. introduction facet joint pain affects 5% to 15% of the population with low back pain and the prevalence increases with age due to progression of arthritis. while conservative treatments are often unsuccessful, the scientific evidence on minimally invasive therapies such as intra-articular steroid infiltration and continuous and pulsed radiofrequency (prf) of the medial branches is contradictory. since prf has recently been reported to successfully treat joint pain, a new application of this method is proposed for facetogenic lumbar pain via an intra-articular subcapsular approach. here we reported two cases with successful treatment.

A New Radiofrequency Ablation Procedure to Treat Sacroiliac Joint Pain.

BACKGROUND Low back pain may arise from disorders of the sacroiliac joint in up to 30% of patients. Radiofrequency ablation (RFA) of the nerves innervating the sacroiliac joint has been shown to be a safe and efficacious strategy. OBJECTIVES We aimed to develop a new RFA technique to relieve low back pain secondary to sacroiliac joint disorders. STUDY DESIGN Methodology development with val...

Comparison of intra-articular lumbar facet joint pulsed radiofrequency and intra-articular lumbar facet joint corticosteroid injection for management of lumbar facet joint pain

BACKGROUND This study aimed to demonstrate the effect of intra-articular (IA) lumbar facet joint (LFJ) pulsed radiofrequency (PRF) for the management of LFJ pain, and to compare the effect of IA LFJ PRF to IA corticosteroid injection (ICI). Pathology in the LFJ is a common source of lower back pain (LBP). It is responsible for chronic LBP in approximately 15% to 45% of patients. It has been rep...

The Treatment of Joint Pain with Intra-articular Pulsed Radiofrequency

BACKGROUND The intra-articular (IA) application of pulsed radiofrequency (PRF) for pain in small and large joints represents a recent development that has proven to be effective in many cases. We performed a retrospective study of 89 such procedures in 57 consecutive patients with chronic articular pain. OBJECTIVES The aim of this retrospective study is to evaluate the effectiveness of intraa...

مقایسه رادیوفرکانس پالس و بلوک شاخه مدیال در درمان دردهای کمری با منشأ مفصل فاست

Background and aims:  Using methods such as pulsed radiofrequency (PRF) and nerve blocks are among the methods used in pain clinics to treat facet-originating low back pain. This study compares two methods of pulsed radiofrequency and facet joint block (FJB)regarding pain recovery and improving disability of patients suffering from facet-originating low back pain. Material and Method: 50 pat...

Using pulsed radiofrequency ablation to treat pain associated with a tumor involving the brachial plexus.

Pain associated with cancer is often difficult to treat, even more so when tumors involve peripheral nerves. Therapy is complex and often requires a multimodal approach that can include medications, radiation, and interventional techniques. These components are utilized with variable success, but are also limited by known complications or adverse effects. We present the case of a 53-year-old wo...
